Yesterday I went along to the launch of the Lavenham Good
Neighbour Scheme. Suffolk is one of the leading counties in the country when
it comes to organising these schemes, which aim to help local people in permanent or temporary need with transport
and difficulties they may experience at home.
Lavenham is the 32nd community in the
county to start a Good Neighbour Scheme, and given the good attendance at the launch yesterday I think that it will be a great success.
I know that it has
taken a good deal of effort by Doreen Twitchett and her committee of six to get
the organisation up and running. There
are some 17 fully registered volunteers at present, and a further 20 are waiting for formalities to
be completed.
If your village is interested in starting a similar scheme
full details and help are available from Community Action Suffolk.
