On Wednesday night South Suffolk Conservative Association was delighted to host a dinner for mega blogging star and political commentator, Paul Staines,
otherwise known as Guido Fawkes.
Paul was interested to visit the area that had recently ‘lost’
not one, but two Members of Parliament.
I think that he was surprised at how normal and inoffensive we all
seemed, and, given his propensity for savaging the unwary politician on his
website, I think that the compliment was returned!
Paul gave an interesting talk about how he entered the
blogosphere, and how his site, which now attracts three and a half million hits
a year, has developed over time. He also
gave his opinion on a number of political themes, including the outcome of
the General Election in May next year (too difficult to call!). His comments were, on the whole, serious and
considered, although there was a nasty moment when I thought we were moving towards discussion of a certain Essex MP, now best known for intimate photography.
Paul will be welcome to return to Suffolk again at any time
and we were very grateful for his kindness in offering to come to see us.
