Did you know that last year Suffolk Highway's 39 gritters treated 100,000 miles of road? This amounts to a trip that would take you four times around the world.
Full information about the council's preparations for the winter can be found by going onto the Suffolk County Council website. This year you will be able to watch a video that has been specially made to illustrate the extent of the task faced every winter season. You can access the relevant page HERE.
Just at the moment with temperatures well into the teens ice and snow seems rather distant but it is good to know that when and if it does arrive the county is prepared.
There are 2400 strategically placed grit bins across the county and now is a good time to check to see if your local one has been filled. The filling process starts in mid October so it may not yet have been done. If however in a week or so yours remains empty there are full instructions about what to do on the website.
