Community policing in the Babergh area took another step forward last weekend through the Babergh Connect initiative.
A number of events were held at which Babergh D.C , Suffolk Constabulary, Suffolk County Council and the Police Authority engaged with the local community. It was not just all chat and fun however. A police exercise on Friday morning on the Sudbury by pass resulted in detection of a number of cars with worn tyres, a clutch of speeding vehicles, and one vehicle which wasn’t licensed to be on the road at all!
Nick and I went down to the Market Hill on Friday evening to participate in a football and music event led by The Hub, which is part of Babergh’s Be Active initiative for young people, The Hub is a bi-weekly event held at Sudbury Upper School for children aged between 12 and 17. Also at the event was the former Mayor of Sudbury, Adrian Osborne and his wife Jan, who are pictured here
with Inspector Paul Crick who heads up the Babergh Safer Neighbourhood Teams.
The main attraction for the young was a ‘panna cage’ (pictured above), in which professional football coaches helped young enthusiasts to hone their skills.
A DJ played what I understand to be the latest music, and one or two of the older people present, including the Chief Constable and our own Councillor, Colin Spence,( who is also the Chairman of the Police Authority), enjoyed perfecting their record spinning skills.
On the following day Babergh West Safer Neighbourhood Teams were active in Waldingfield Ward seeking feedback from residents in four streets with regard to anti-social behaviour in the area.
