On Monday evening nine residents participated in the training session for Valley Road Lorry Watch.
Peter Canfer from Trading Standards took us through the essentials.
We learned about how to recognise when lorries are in fact overweight and how to go about reporting these to Trading Standards. Offenders will receive a warning if it is a first sighting, and will be prosecuted if caught three times. Prosecutions are rare however because most firms take all complaints seriously and the livelihood of the driver of the vehicle is at risk
Peter is going to warn local companies that a scheme is now in place which should prove a deterrent.
If other people are interested in participating in a future training session please contact the co-ordinator, Guy Stainton at this link.
