New 'gates' at the edge of the village have recently been installed in Acton.
The aim of these is to remind motorists that they are entering a built up area, and to encourage them to keep within the speed limit. They also add to the 'sense of place' by marking the edge of the village.
There was some concern from residents about the siting of the gate on the road to Long Melford. It was placed so close to the drive to the church that many expressed concern for the health and safety of the Rector, who of course lives at the top of the track.
I understand from County Councillor, Colin Spence, who arranged for the gates to be installed, that although the gate has now been moved it is still not really in the best position. A further change is expected shortly.
