Opening my e mails this morning I learn that there is to be a baptism at St Mary's Church, Chilton, next weekend.
This is the first such ceremony in the Church for 40 years.
At the recent Prolog planning debacle, in their hurry to wave the application through, one or two of the committee members spoke quite disparagingly about the value of the Grade One listed Church. As local readers of this site know, the Church stands on the edge of Sudbury and is gradually being swamped by industrial development. St Mary's is officially 'redundant', but its life goes on. Services take place at regular intervals; its bright and beautiful interior and stunning monuments from the thirteenth (?) and sixteenth centuries continue to attact suprise and delight.
Now there will be another event that celebrates St Mary's ongoing relevance and importance to the community.
